Quikdash is correct. You really only have 2 options and leaving it in 4:3 is the best one even though you'll have bars on the sides.
If you stretch or zoom all the people will look short ans squatty. Also, just for yucks, check the other side of the DVD. A lot of them have full on one side and wide on the other.

Hey, before you buy that screen why not get a beamer, this is a projector TV. That way you can have home cinema and it is a lot cheaper than a 52" wide screen !
With beamers you can choose how big the picture will be by the position of the beamer, so you can adjust it.
Then if you have a good amplifier and some big loudspeakers you can invite the whole village to watch James Bond (if you like that) and hey, you'll be the most popular people in town !

Full screen DVDs on a widescreen should be left at the 4:3 aspect ratio in order to get the correct picture. If you try to stretch the picture to fit the screen it will look really distorted.

Short and squatty. Quite unattractive. People look like Wobbles, Skyscrapers looks like Paperweights... but Roads and Rivers look GREAT.

i'd start getting widescreen DVDs if I were you. Widescreen is better anyway because they don't chop up the film and you get to see it the way it is intended.
