"you are my sunshine", my uncle used to play it on the piano at Christmastime when all the family got together.
My aunt gave me an old vitrola with lots of 78s that had the old war songs on them like the Andrew Sisters (something about Company B"), but also "yes we have no bananas" (I think that song was from the 1930's). Of course Bing Crosby was popular as I was growing up, later Perry Como. My dad liked the big bands music so those songs by Glenn Miller and his band were heard a lot and then Mitch Miller and the songs they would sing on tv with the bouncing ball on the words so you could sing along. I also remember the song about wearing a smile, and giving that smile to someone else. Kate Smith had a talk show and I'd see her on the black and white tv when I came home from school, singing "When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain" every day as she closed her show.

Marc Bolan - Children of the Revolution. ♫
BTW - nickywireobsessive I always impart this piece of extra info when I answer a question involving Marc Bolan. Please excuse.
Ahem.. Marc Bolan derived his artist name by combining the name of his idol Bob Dylan - BO & LAN = Bolan.
Oh I wish I hadn't bothered now - Who's the negative thumbster???
