That is why they are called guests...but you know what if you are an all girls guests and it is girls party so there is no case about it..we can do all the washing, but if it is a family gathering, better not, it is always good to treat your guests in a VIP manner, serve them well and let them go home safely...after all, to have guests is not a ususal thing..so why let them wash the dishes...would you want it too if they let you at their home? I dont think so...............hehehe

I have a dish washer so there is no such need.
But, if my guests are very close friends, they help in setting the table and carrying the dishes in the kitchen, etc.etc.
When the guests are not that close, no , I cannot ask such a thing. I either call a helping lady for the night, or I buy them dinner to a fine restaurant!

Some guests feel bad that you've cooked and then have to clean. If they want to do my dishes, shucks, *I* don't want to hurt their feelings! Go right ahead! Even if I DO want to wash my own dishes, I'd rather hear a feeble, "Want some help?" than to have them just get up from the table w/out offering at all.

I didn't even let my wife do the dishes! And I'm one of those obnoxious house guests that likes to help clean up. I have to learn to do a little and let them run their own houses. :P

when my best friend comes over she always washes her dishes, that I understand, but then she'll talk to me while I sit and she washes dishes, I feel kinda bad but she says she doesn't mind. It's to a point where it's natural now.

I will help them if they insist but I am so picky about the way everything is done I would really rather do it myself.
