I think so. The law as it stands is very confusing and I never know whether I can have one pint, two pints, two glasses of this, one shot of that and in the end I don't have anything. What's your answer on this?

It goes without saying that the vast majority of people are against drinking and driving, including myself. Only an idiot gets into a car after having a skinfull and drives home. But there are reasons why a drink driving ban would/could prove difficult.A complete ban on drinking and driving, means an absolutely nil tolerance for alcohol content in the blood. Is it a realistic option? Many foodstuffs and products, such as mouthwash, already contain a small proportion of alcohol and the body makes its own anyway so nil is just not possible....so how will it work?

Yes - and I had a drink driving conviction in 1970, not long after the original law came in.
I support - and actively argue for a nil alcohol level in the blood (that is actually almost impossible physiologically, so there would have to be a very very small minimum level ) plus random checks by the few traffic police left. I would also impose a minimum five year ban for the first offence and a life ban for two offences in ten years.

No. You can drink and still drive safely. It just depends on amount. I think the limit as it stands is o.k.
However, you dont have to drink/drive if you dont want to.
Also it depends on whether u think u r going to be caught or not, some areas are better for drink/driving than others. If you go over the limit then yr caught no good crying!

Its not a bad idea, but it will never happen.

It would mean that people couldn't drink with meals at restaurants and at other people homes... in effect punishing everyone to try and stop the few.

All i can suggest is sticking to the same combinations of drinks when you go out.

If you are having wine - always have the same brand, type and measurement. Same for beer. If you have a shot, know what else you can have after.

Here is a bit of a site to help:

Or - just don't even try to drive when you are on a night out. Get a taxi! Split between 4 it works out very reasonable.

i was going to ask this question lol.
I think it should. take away the whole: "i feel like i'm ok to drive" mentality. i think it would lessen the amount of people who drive under the influence. but there will still be the absolute morons who do it anyway. I think there should also be tougher penalties for drink driving. Iread in the paper about a girl who died when a drunk driver hit her car. the driver had lost his licence several times, and had been charged for drink driving too many times. He got two years for killing her. sounds a little light to me. drink driving is too dangerous to be acceptable at any level.

He could get an identical penalty - in court docket - that anybody else might get. not extra, no much less. As for dropping his interest, no not unavoidably. law enforcement officers have a brilliant array of responsibilities and do many roles which do not contain utilising. If it replace into you, and your interest did not contain utilising then you certainly probable does not could resign. As for dropping his pension. he's paid into it for years, why could he lose it. apart from any punishment he gets in court docket, he will additionally face a Disciplinary committee, he might desire to be demoted with a loss of earnings, he might desire to be fined, he surely is definitely not in line for any promotions for years yet to return. so as properly as being punished in court docket, he might additionally be punished by using his employers. how lots of you may face a double punishment?

YES!! there are too many people drinking and driving who cause accidents and dont get hurt but the others who were in the accident as well gets badly hurt or even die. if you think you are over the limit DONT DRIVE. the easiest way would be if people want to drink they should get a taxi. i know, a lot of people will say they cant afford a taxi, but if that's the case can they really afford to drink?
so yes a complete ban on drink driving is needed.

Zero tolerance perhaps but not zero alchohol. Some European countries have a low level of alcohol permissable to allow for mouthwashes, medicines and too much brandy in Granny's Christmas cake. It's around 10mg as opposed to the UK 80mg.

My neighbour was killed by a drunk driver when he was 16. My young cousins were hit by a drunk driver who tried to escape in his car but couldnt actually walk (luckily they werent killed), 2 christmas's ago. SO yes, I feel (even if it hasnt affected people i know or family), that it should be outlawed completely. I feel within myself that after a glas of wine, I am most def not capable of driving, alcohol goes right to my head. I think there should be a tougher ban and an even tougher penalty. Although these people who get in their cars whilst drunk dont mean to kill people... They are still making that choice to go out , get blootered and get into their cars , the innocent people affected dont choose to be injured or heaven forbid, die.

Yes it would be much easier to understand especially around Christmas when it happens more often. With the smoking ban a lot of people i know have house parties and when the drinks in the wits are out.At least with a total ban everybody would know where they stood.Would it stop it happening no i don't think it will.Tougher sentencing and bigger fines might do it.
