It never really did ~ I loved to get hugs and kisses from my parents. As a sister to 6 brothers and mom to a son ... I hate to say it but I think it's a "boy" thing. =( My son is 8 and he already started - so guess what I did? I told him if you don't want to kiss me than that's fine ... no kisses at home ... no kisses at bedtime ... if kisses are so bad then I agree ... no more kisses from mommy.

I know that sound a little mean, but I hated that he wouldn't kiss or hug me. I live for those kisses and hugs. SO after one day of "no" kisses he changed his tune real quick. Now he kisses and hugs me in front of everyone and hasn't acted embarrassed since. That was 3 months ago ... we'll see whether or not it lasts! lol

Don't be sad ... he still loves you to pieces! How could he not?! You are GEM ... Super Mom extraordinaire!

Here's a hug from me instead ... I know it won't quite suffice ... but, hey, a hug is a hug! =)

Peace ...

"the but?" I think I might have a problem with that, too...

My boy is just about to turn 10, and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it, at least with me. I think he did ask his mother to stop kissing him when she dropped him off at school last year, though.

As for me, I can't recall a specific age where I started to be embarrassed about parental PDA, but I do remember being uncomfortable with another kid and his father kissing when I was in 8th grade.

They were giving me a ride home from school and the boy kissed his father on the lips when we got into the car (the dad gave him a kiss too, but for both it was just a quick peck.) He was a year behind me, and the family was Italian, so I have always chalked it up to some cultural thing, with a little bit of still being treated like a baby.

I have tried to avoid kissing my son on the lips for years, but more because I don't want to catch any of the germs or viruses he brings home from school. He still always aims for the lips.

So I guess my answer is somewhere between 5th grade and 7th grade. Probably just about where your child is.

You are lucky you got to the age of 10. With both my daughters it started about 8. The older one got over it by the time she was a young teen ager. The younger one gave me a hug after we had lunch out last week, so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes I guess I was around that age also. But the years that follow will bring your children closer to you when they realize how dear you are to them. When they have time to compare their lives with you with the reality of the world, their closeness will increase. For me, there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of my parents and the love and sacrifice they gave me.

It actually never did embarrass me. I had a friend who was extremely embarrassed by it and when I asked her why, she never knew the answer to it. My kids, 6 and 8 years old, love it too !
