i didnt get along with my mom at all either as a child, but now we talk everyday on the phone and we are always doing stuff together and talking and laughing... it feels good to have my mother back!!!

Yes. Starting sometime when I hit my twenties and was out of the house, on my own, did I start to respect and appreciate them as people and not just my parents. Now, they are my idols and my mom is one of my best friends. It much better to know them as people and not my parents though...I get a much wider and clear picture of what they have done in their lives and why.

I`ll never forget the time when at the age of 26 my older daughter thanked me for raising her as we did. She pointed out how many of her former freinds had gone wrong because they had no parental control. She now has her own family and has stayed married for 25 years. Thank GOD.

My dad has always been cool and #1 in my book. My mom on the other hand, we still 'get into it' from time to time. Maybe if she didn't live so close, it might be different.
