How do you feel about a president who stands up, with generals and admirals on either side of him, and says that unless the senate fully funds the war in Iraq he will layoff civilians and cancel civilian contracts with the military.
Bush says this is the only way to have enough money to keep the war going...

Is this political blackmail or more bullying by a military machine?

Your thoughts?

He is forcing our lame congress's hands, which is a good thing to do. This will tell us if congress has the courage of their convictions as much as Bush has the courage of his, my guess is that they will cave and fund the war.

To a point I feel it is a little of both, blackmail & bullying. But look on the bright side his term is almost over. It might sting a few workers and raise the unemployment, but in the long run by congress standing up to him, it might actually get the point across that We The People are in charge and he can be replaced. Iraq needs to take care of its own democracy now, and our boys need to come home to there wives and children and what is left of there lives. We as a nation cannot police the entire world! As soon as we realize that the more prospourous we shall become. As well as maybe gain back some of our respect by other nations.

It's called having only X amount of money and spending it on the really important stuff. You unwittingly pointed out a dirty little secret that Liberals tend to ignore. They like to say that Bush's military industrial complex boys are getting rich on this war. The truth is, the companies that supply everything from missiles and MREs, to refurbishing tanks and making boots, are scattered through almost every state in the Union. States that have Congressman and Senators who LIKE those jobs in their states. They create jobs, bring money to their districts and keeps their voters happy. If their voters are happy, they stay in office. You want to tell the workers in the factory that makes Kevlar helmets that they are getting laid off for X-mas because you wont allocate adequate funds?

Contrary to popular belief, the companies that supply A LOT of the things our Soldiers and Marines use and rely in day to day are not manufactured in big industrial complexes in the big cities. They are made by small companies, in relatively small towns and cities, and are a major source of employment and income to the communities they are located in.

How about that! Gee,has that ever been done before?
Let's see. I believe President Lyndon B. Johnson held the Senate hostage physically in the Senate chambers until they passed a bill he wanted.
I guess that doesn't meet the criteria.
He's with in his rights to do what he can legally to protect our troops in war.

Edit: I wish he would. The Federal Government is top heavy with duplicity and duplication. That alone would save a hell of alot of money.
That'll get the Demorcrats attention.

It's called running a business on limited funds. They are not going to de-fund the soldiers in harms way, so the lesser of 2 evils is to cut the Federal Civil Service employees, not in a combat zone.

It has already been well established that the money will not run short until February/March of next year. Bush speech is just more of what this administration does best....use unwarranted fear tactics to get what he wants.
