Well it's hard to narrow it down because so much happened to me in a short amount of time...

For instance,
in the last 5 years alone, I had my back surgery that left me disabled and I cannot work...

I lost my job after 23 years because of my surgery...

I had to place my mother in a nursing home because of her Alzheimer's...

My daughter ran away from home at age 18 and married and had a child and I wasn't part of her life for 2 years and then we got back together again...

My husband's mom, dad, grandma, and step-dad all died in the last 5 years and he has been so depressed about all of those events...

My husband's daughter also has not called or visited in the last 5 years and we have no idea where she is or how she is...

All these events compromise the last 5 years of my life and it has been very, very hard...

Genuinely, the most traumatic thing that has happened in my life is the realisation that I no longer believed in the religion I was born into.
It was scary and I spent so much time in a state of fear and anxiety that the rest of my life was postponed until it was resolved.
Thankfully, I have made peace with myself and have begun a new religion-free life and that has been wonderful.
I subscribe to the belief that sometimes the most traumatic experience in your life can be turned around to become the most precious thing in your life.

My girlfriend got a diagnosis 22 years ago: multiple sclerosis.
I am still with her.
M.S. can be a horrible disease. It's hard to live with as a patient and as the partner of a patient.

The death of my child. I was nine months pregnant when I went into labor and when I got to the hospital they could not find a heartbeat and they told me was dead. After I had him they said he had been dead for 3 days. It is not natural for a parent to out live their child. When we think about pregnancy we always think of the outcome and never think of all the things that can go wrong.

It was an unrequited love situation and although I tend to think of myself as a strong person, it came as close to breaking me as anything ever has before or since.
