Well let's see... Dead artist still selling albums... Right?
So... There's Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin (just look for Christmas Evergreens), Jimmy Hendrix, Liberace, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, Woody Guthrie, Glenn Miller, and many others I can't even remember. I would rather say that if an artist has been really great, then he's achieved a status of "almost immortality", since we're not dead for real as long as someone still remember us.

Elvis Presley, in life, sold enough records--albums and 45 RPM records that if placed side by side, could circle the Earth--and lead a path to the Moon, where another circle around IT could be made and a return path back. That's A LOT of records!!
In death, Elvis still sells to this day. Presley, Inc. is a HUGE behemoth enterprise. Album profits are also assisted by merchandising and receipts from Graceland tours.
Elvis still is the King.
Jimi (Hendrix), Jim (Morrison/ The Doors) and Janis (Joplin) also still sell.....but combined--these guys don't come close to touching Elvis' annual sales profits.

There are many dead artists whose works are still being sold everywhere. If the answer is Elvis Presley, he'd better get in a long, long line. He wouldn't even be at the head of the line because he has been preceded in death by other artists who continue to be popular~some of them more popular than at the time of death.
Recordings by long-gone operatic and musical stars continue big sales, as do thousands of others.

Well, first of all, one of my favorite artist encourages stealing albums, so yeah. Second of all, by buying the album, I'm more supporting the label that made the album than the album. Sometimes that is fine, and sometimes I do buy albums. But I can say thanks other ways, like seeing them in concert, which generates a greater source of revenue for the artist anyway. Plus for the really rare albums, I'm sorry, but I am not paying 50 dollars for music. I'm just not.
