They are not dumb. Unfortunately, they are rushed by the health care system and have to see so many patients in a day and don't seem to have time anymore. That is the same way with nursing. The nurses only have time to pass the pills and do paperwork. It is the CNA's who spend more time with you and they may have 20 people or more to assist everyday. It is sad how our health care system is set up. Rare to find those who really take the time with you no matter what. Money is most peoples drive.
You do have a right and people are starting to do this to:
1. Make a list of everything you want to ask them before you see them.
2. You tell them as soon as you get there that you have a list of things to go over with him/her.
3. Tell them You need their undivided attention until your questions are answered. Tell him/her you appreciate their time with you and their good bedside manner in advance.
If that doctor won't spend the time with you, then you can ask to see another one who can spend the time with you.
Remember, Doctors are only human and sometimes they do not know all of the answers. Tell them it is ok to tell you they do not know. If they don't know, see if they will send you to someone in that specialty area.

They are not dumb, they are so smart that they don't have to listen!!! I have a new policy as of 3 yrs ago, I will not pay a doctor to misdiagnose me when I tell him upfront what the problem is. And I say it to them so they will listen better when I tell them whats wrong.

I think (Linda) has given you sound advice. Its not that Doctors are dumb, they are business people who are driven by profit for the most part. Let them know up front what you expect of their services.

How do you know most of them are dumb?
Have you personally been to all of them to make an intelligent decision?
I think not your question proves that.
