I provide live desktop support to a few of my customers and wondered if any web based virus scanners were really effective enough to use in a business environment?

Thanks

You can use online scans to confirm any findings that the person's regular A/V scan picks up. Some malware can actually corrupt or disable your resident security products. Here are a few online scans you can run:

Panda - http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm
Norton - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

i will not encourage online scans at this with the level of hacking going on on the internet, look at it from this perspective; this free online tools will have to do what spywares do to get into different parts of your systems and gather information, remeber that lot of these are freewares and they are not liable in anyway.

i think about 80% of free spywares themselves are spywares!

My suggestion is that you look for a product that can be can be downloaded and then regularly updated, then even when users are not online they can scan their PCs.

In a company environment, trust me you will be better off with known vendors as they have their integrity t protect.
