During thier vist to the UK, the Portugese Police will not be interviewing the McCann's or the other seven British witnesses!
The reason? the chief magistrate wants more evidence first!

How are the polce supposed to gather evidence without asking questions?

Asking questions, is a proccess by which one is able to find consistancy.
To find any ambiguities and explain them.
To find out if anyone is being untruthful and why.

Finding Madeline went by the board some months ago. All this is for now is to try to absolve the McCanns of responsibility for the kid being missing, and rebuild their status.

The police ARE asking questions to gather evidence. They are asking the experts at the lab in Birmingham to interpret the forensics results.
Unless the answers implicate the McCanns and their friends, the only reason to re-interview them would be to clarify the alleged inconsistencies in their statements.

Exactly.
Trancebabe . Have you got a link to the Oldfield and negligence case. Seems a bit fishy

Police ask questions based on the evidence that they have.

They do not gather evidence in questions.

There are MORE than 7 British Witnesses. The main one, being SUSPECT NO1. Robert Murat. Plus numerous other Ex Pat residents & workers in Luz.

Aww diddums, have the PJ's disappointed you?

Kate & Gerry are about to be cleared as suspects. Then every one can get on with the Job in Hand. Finding MADELEINE.

Get used to it.

Watch this space.

We knew this would happen, a Clazza whitewash, the story the public seem to be hearing (and believing) is that the McCanns are due to have the "arguido" status lifted!
Wait and see, I say.

How else do you think this case can be killed off, closed and filed away ?
By doing that it's already curtains to the 40 questions on which so much emphasis was put a couple of weeks ago.
So it will take some time before the whole case can be conveniently filed away !! Don't be impatient... !!!

I'm sure they know what they're doing now and that they've been barking up the wrong tree.

Have some faith in the Brit legal system.

The minute things go according to law & not according the witch hunt, theres a lot of squawking foul play...

The Chief Magistrate, i presume, knows his job better than us posters here.

And since when did asking questions, which have been asked repeatedly before, ever produced any significant evidence?

Even though the Portuguese police have no jurisdiction in this country, they could ask the British police to question them.

However the only way to sort the 'wheat from the chaff' is to get them back to Portugal, split them all up and question them individually.

I am afraid that I smell high level interference here.

Edit.
There is also a law in this country that allows for British nationals to be prosecuted (here) for crimes committed abroad!
Why have they not been prosecuted for child neglect?

Who, the British magistrate? What does he have to do with it? So now are the McCanns hiding behind the British legal system. I thought they want to "do everything we can to help the investigation" and " cooperate fully with the PJ to clear our names"

They are such a joke.
