Because they do not know that Sudan is Africa instead of Middle East. For those who want to know I will put a link here to a Middle East map.
Added. The heart of this globe is approximately 7000 kilometers beneath your feet. It is a globe and by definition its heart or its center is inside, not on the surface. The Middle East is a geographical area defined by maps. You can't add or take away countries from the map simply because you think they belong there.

They do it because the Sudan is part of the middle east, and many of the countries (I have been to a fair few so I know first hand) including Iraq, Iran, Saudi, etc are extremely simialar in ideologies, religion, ethnic groups and so on, that is why they all get lumped together. Basically it all boils down to Islam.

Purely and simply because it's Islamic. No other reason.
Bit pathetic, really. I mean, this gives you a good indication of how ridiculous Sharia Law actually is. A jail sentence for calling a teddy bear Mohammad? Isn't that the most pathetic thing you've ever heard?
Sorry, my mistake, that's not the most pathetic thing. The most pathetic thing is the mob that gathered after the sentence of fifteen days in jail was passed loudly claiming it was too lenient! What planet do these people come from?!

for all the morons and idiots, sudan is in africa not the middle east. you know the place, country that produces a large amount of oil supplied to china and by the way the country that has been allowed to massacre people in darfur, of course neither of these issues are related.

Because it is the heart of the globe . all religions are in that small part of the world . they compete , they fight and sometimes they unite . all prophets are from the middle-east . ask Europeans why they crusaded for a thousand years in the middle-east ,ask the Jews why they wanted to have their homeland in the middle-east , ask the US why they have hundreds of thousands of troops in the middle-east and finally ask God why did He put half the world reserves of oil in the middle-east .
and by the way the middle-east we refer to is the area that includes Iran , Turkey and the Arab world from the Arabian gulf to Morocco ,
this includes Sudan and Israel .

They want to imprison and flog the lady teacher for allowing the students to name a teddy bear. The man name Muhammad that they worship married a 9 yr old child and had people murdered but it is OK because it was in the name of religion.

1) America and allied countries kick themselves in the butt for allowing their country's dependence on Mid-East / OPEC oil.
2) Mid-East countries are backward cultures, playing with some powerful war-toys. Their ignorance alone there is cause for concern.
There's your answer and the one for "Why is the US engaged in a "war against terrorism" in Iraq. By the way: the US goal to stabilize per barrel oil prices seems to be failing.
