For Christmas, my mom wants to go to a really nice restaurant in SF, but I don't know of any since I'm not from the area. What is the nicest/best restaurant in SF for such an occasion? Price is not an issue.
If you can, please include links to the restaurants if applicable.

Thanks!

I've tried most of the fancy restaurants in SF. My all time favorite is La Folie (www.lafolie.com). It was the most incredibly culinary experience of my life with great service and incredibly food. However, everyone has different tastes, so check out the tasting menus for each of these top ranked restaurants for what looks best to you:

www.farallonrestaurant.com
www.garydanko.com (though I didn't think this was that great)
www.fleurdelyssf.com

If you are willing to stray a bit further into Napa Valley, you must try French Laundry. It is ranked among the top restaurants in the world. It is difficult to get reservations and be prepared to spend about $500 for 2 people (including wine) but it'll be worth it and you'd want to come again.

The absolute nicest in SF is Michael Mina. The dining room is spectacular and the food is amazing. Visually stunning and the taste is out of this world. This is the "special occasion" restaurant of the Bay Area.

The other restaurants mentioned are either not "nice" or they are just too touristy and cheesy, though the food is ok.

I've been to a lot of restaurants all over the world and make every attempt to try the new ones that open. Michael Mina really stands out.

Gary Danko is highly rated though getting a reservation for Christmas at this point may be next to impossible. Most of the best restaurants book up early so good luck!

I agree with (above), Michael Mina's. I've been to his restaurant in Las Vegas. With a certain entree purchase, you may get a free cookbook to take home with you! His restaurant was also on the Food Network, Giada's show.

I hear the Carnelian Room at the top of 555 California building is really nice. Panoramic views of the city, great food, extremely extensive wine collection.

I haven't been there because price IS an issue for me! :) Have fun!

Run, do no longer walk on your telephone and make contact with the two a million) Alioto's on Fisherman's Wharf or 2) Castagnola's (Fisherman's Wharf additionally) to make reservations NOW. Alioto's is sweet on the wharf and is an enterprise in SF. I could desire to understand, i became into born in SF and function been to the two a type of eating places many many cases. Love them the two. Alioto's because of the fact in forty years, its by no skill replaced. Waiters are professional, older adult men who've completed this all their lives and stay to serve, because it have been. they are super. The foodstuff is classic wharf fare: crab, prawns, sole, crab/shrimp louie, mussels, good salads, foodstuff in many cases has an italian impact and previous formed italian decor. Castagnola's is astonishing too. on the wharf yet no longer on an identical highway as alioto's. it is somewhat extra foo-foo, however the foodstuff is with regard to an identical in type and technique of cooking. neither of them is somewhat formal b/c they opt to charm to the travelers in t-shirts and shorts, yet the two are familiar SF surroundings and charm, super provider, no waiting in case you have a reservation (a minimum of this has been my experience), and passable parts. they the two attempt annoying to have each and everything the way the customer requests. i could circulate to the two one for my prom, fairly i think of i did. oh, i purely theory-approximately yet another, do no longer even understand if its nevertheless there nevertheless. called scoma's. on the wharf down from castagnola's, its somewhat extra formal (yet you will nevertheless see persons in shorts), and that they've seafood yet extra of a diverse menu. scrumptious! makes me opt to bounce on a aircraft this night and circulate back purely to eat there! i think of any of them could fax you a menu. good success and function a super time.
