Senate Bill 1959 to Criminalize Thoughts, Blogs, Books and Free Speech Across America

The U.S. Senate is about to pass a law that would criminalize merely thinking thoughts in support of the U.S. Constitution, or against the war on Iraq, or against any government office (including the FDA). All across the internet, top bloggers, authors and commentators are expressing their deep concerns about this new "anti-terrorism" law and how it could plunge America into police state tyranny. This is no conspiracy theory, it's a genuine U.S. Senate bill that's about to be voted on!

billie, reads "should not", not very comforting after Patriot Act and citizens already detained without evidence. It also criminalizes thoughts. "Individuals prone to" "group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs
from bill: The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.
“(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.
There is no clarification of the internet 'threat' so I wonder what they mean.

Naomi Wolf is saying things which historians (such as myself) have been saying for the last 6 years or so about the restriction of personal freedom in the name of collective security in the Western world.

That the US should start to resemble 1930s Germany is no surprise; anybody wishing to learn the secrets of public relations and state security has to study, and then copy, Nazi Germany as they wrote the book on mass motivation and the supression of dissent.

I watched the first 5 mins and knew where she was going.

Well I actually read the bill and I noticed this section.

"(8) Any measure taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism in the United States should not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights, or civil liberties of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents."

Read the bill before saying that it will "Criminalize Thoughts, Blogs, Books and Free Speech Across America". Although I do not really understand the entire point of the bill and I do not really think it is necessary it is also not attempting to take our freedom of speech.

There are plenty of other laws that are trying to take away free speech and ideals. For example, in my state, they are banning smoking in all public places. I don't smoke, but I realize that they are slowly taking away our rights.

Freedom of Speech--even back in America's infancy AFTER the Constitution's creation, held sharp edged double standards.

Basically, you can speak your mind--however, you bear full responsibility for whatever you face for doing so. So you can't be jailed or imprisioned for disagreeing with matters of politics--as long as you do NOT threaten with harm the President or any political empowered.

But First Amendment protections are NOT effective from the invisible blade of political dynamics. Example, many independent news publishers back in the post-Colonial era were harrassed and shut down by physical enforcers hired by politicians who had their views on social / economic issues opposed.

Today, an even more effective---and scarier---means of squashing media opposition exists, which makes todays print and broadcast journalism media appear more propagandist.

Getting Americans to shut the hell up is never a bad thing. Most have far too much to say for themselves
