This girl drove drunk in college, got a girl paralyzed and her roommate killed. I gather all of them were drunk and willingly consented to the car ride, which took place in 1996. Seriously, it's been 11 years, she's living life through her MySpace page, why are Lindsay's relatives in America and law enforcement so concerned with locking her up? Killing people while driving drunk is bad enough on your conscience, going after her after 11 years and thinking that locking her up is going to make a difference is another. It's just another waste of tax money, give me your thoughts?

The girl is currently living in Peru.

The question is, would one of the other girls have chosen to drive if they could? That means they all were responsible for what happened. Why should the victim's family hold such a vendetta? It's ridiculous. Case closed, the nineties are over, move on, your daughter was an idiot.

What she did was murder, and nothing that happens will change that. She killed someone, plain and simple, through her irresponsible actions. The U.S. court system is prosecuting it as such. Why should she get any special treatment? If you could act recklessly and kill people and not go to jail, than what's going to keep anyone else from doing the same?

Because law enforcement and government bodies are meant to represent the people, and people are petty and vindictive (at least to some degree). If someone killed someone I seriously cared about, clearly because of their knowing and deliberate carelessness (drunk driving), I wouldn't just let it go because "it's been a while and they must be feeling really bad about it". I would want the drunk driver to have died, not my sister/daughter/girlfriend/wife. Dang straight I would want law enforcement to go after them and make them pay for what they did, to the full extent of the law. And if they run from their responsibilities and hide in another country, all the more reason to drag them back and make them face the music. I think that's just human nature, not because the police love ruining people's lives.

The legal system has to sate this desire for justice/revenge, it can't all be about making the criminal a respectful member of society again. If there is no sense of closure or satisfaction for the victim's loved ones (should they be looking for that), people will take the law into their own hands.

Whether the victims consented or not isn't really relevant. Yes, they could and should have refused to travel in the vehicle because the driver was drunk. That doesn't change the fact that the driver knowingly broke the law and drove drunk, knowing the dangers involved and knowing that both the passengers were at risk as well as her. She broke the law and deserves what she's getting. Whether the victims voiced their concerns or not is neither here nor there, because by the law, the driver is clearly responsible for the vehicle and the passengers within.

The whole idea of the penal system used to be that incarceration was intended to rehabilitate most people, and keep society safe from the one's that can't be rehabilitated. Now there are two things that play into it. Money is one thing, and the other is that there is this idea in our society now that people have a "right" to revenge through the penal system. Like the families of victims deserve to have the person that commited the crime locked up so that they can feel satisfied with their need for vengance. They don't even "rehabilitate" people anymore. People can't educate themselves in there or anything else. They just sit and waste how ever many years of their lives the court says they owe for thier misdeed. It's sick really.

It seems to me that the police forces of America know more about the crimes that are being committed than they siren up to. I can't see how any police officer would know whether or not to let somebody off. I'm not suggesting that the human race should be enslaved. I think if people need to get stuff done, they should get'r'done. I think American law enforcement, as well as every other organization in America (to say the least) is in need of brighter minds. I'm not a communist, and I'm not even a republican, not that it matters.
"Our nation is at war" Thats what the TV says all the time. Does anybody know why? Maybe there is something more meaningful to us (let alone me) than war.

The safest bet is to promote peace. But my state (VT) just turned republican, so I could give a bleep.

Life should be fair, not hard.

In your case Law Enforcement MAY not be vindictive.

A former co-worker of my friend started rumors about and it included a retired Peace Officer. It all began from the former Super 8 Motel in Sylmar California located Northeast in the San Fernando Valley. It is now called the Country Side Inn. The retired LAPD officer was losing his Private Security contract at Sam's Club 6625 which is owned by Wal-Mart.

The driver of any vehicle is responsible for whatever happens to their passengers. Didn't you take drivers education in High School? Quit trying to make the law in your own image. she is guilty of Manslaughter, She has ruined one life and ended another. Get a clue! She needs to face the music and right now she is a fugitive from justice. What if it was your daughter that was killed? Of let me guess you have NO children right? Yeah I guessed that! I hope the Feds extradite her *** right back here and she gets the full boatload! anything else is a cop out! PS. Its my tax money too buddy and I say nail her *** to the wall!

The family of the people she hurt want her to suffer the consequences, and I think that is fair of them to want. Because of this girl driving drunk, which she shouldn't have, there is one girl dead and another paralyzed. The law enforcement are just doing their jobs. Jeesh, jealous of the US or something? It is GREAT here! I love the POPO.

Well, maybe when the one person comes back to life, and the other one regains her ability to walk, the family and the law might take it easy on her.
