If a punter in Football punts the ball through the goal post; will he have scored 3 points? Was there ever a time when this was alowed in the NFL. Did anyone ever do this?

Yes,its called a dropkick. Last time it was done was 05 by doug flutie.

It used to be common practice in football,but not anymore.

I don't think you can score but Punting a ball through goal post.. That would be a touchback not a FG..

I believe the rule is that the ball must be touching the ground when kicked to be considered a field goal attempt. You do not need a person there holding it, but it still must touch the ground, which is why a drop kick is legal.

it must hit the ground first before the kicker can punt the ball through the goal post for three points

Only if the ball touches the ground before the punter kicks it. It's called a drop kick.

Yes it is called a dropkick and the last time I saw it was the one Doug Flutie made for the Patriots.

A drop kick is not the same as a punt.

no thats a touchback and they spot the ball on teh 20.
