What's crappy is that while you both consented to the act, the majority of the country does have some form of a statutory rape charge, and if you are in fact aware of the girl's age, it's hard to counter. The law does serve its purpose at times (in that it protects many young people) but it can screw with a person who will have to suffer a lot of adverse effects because of a parent's vindictiveness or a penal system's racial bias.
There is a chance that you may have to register as a sex offender (a sex offender is not a sexual predator). IT depends on your state's laws, the circumstances of your case and your age. As to you serving a full year- it's highly dependent on your case.

Good luck (personally, I don't see why parents have to be so vindictive and mess with a person's life because they've finally realized that their "little girl" is having consensual sex...)

The age of consent in Ohio is sixteen, see the 1st 2 links under to envision. there is data on all 50 states, or maybe another worldwide places. The criminal age to be married everywhere in the country is eighteen, see the third link. under intense circumstances, Ohio women human beings sixteen and older can marry without parental consent IF the male IS over 18 and IF the decide facilitates it. you should comprehend, this has got here approximately only as quickly as in OH history, and the lady turn into basically 2 months faraway from being 18, see the final link to make certain this.

I think they are trying to scare you...and well they should.

The law that pertains to your situation (if in fact your state has such a law) is referred to as the Romeo and Juliet laws. Thesa are laws designed to protect young people from being caught up in a sexual predator situation and later branded as one and required to register as one.

The main issue here is usually the age of the participants. If you are within a 4year age range and YOU are not least 18 at the time of the incident, all you have are a bunch of hard feelings on everyones part. It MIGHT be possible you could recievd 12 months in the clink but the sexual predator and registration law would not apply..

Just did have this issue run its course here in Georgia.

Sex when you're 16 and 17 may, or may not, be illegal in your State, but drinking alcohol most CERTAINLY is illegal.

If you choose to break the law you have to accept the consequences.
