Dear Dr. J thank you for your help, but as I have heard vitamin E should not be taked more than 3 in a week. I used to tade one a day but after this news I reduced it to 3 in a week, which I wanted to make sure that I am doing the right thing.

similar aged person I know takes ONE A DAY, or SEVEN a week. Best to always take at the same time each day--for more even effects. ALWAYS check with your doc first in case it might impact any other meds you take.

What form of vitamin E are you asking about?

Hopefully you are taking a complete form of vitamin E containing all 8 naturally occurring components of E - alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocopherols and alpha, beta, gamma, and delta tocotrienols. If this is the case, you can take 400 to 800 IU daily.

However, if you are taking only alpha-tocopherol (which is only one of the eight that makes a complete vitamin E supplement), then do not take more than 400 IU per day. High doses of just the alpha-tocopherol form can actually lead to lower levels of some of the other forms of vitamin E (e.g. gamma-tocopherol) in your blood.

If you are not able to make clear sense of what I am advising, it may be a good idea to seek a consultation with a nutritionally trained health care professional.

Best wishes and good luck.

P.S. Be sure to take vitamin E supplements with a meal for optimum absorption.
