We are both on the lease. Im asking about the cable and electric bills. Since they are not in my name, I dont think I should have to pay for them. Can I get in trouble for this?

You cannot get into trouble for not paying someone elses bills. They are in her name and only she is responsible for them. You are only responsible to pay your share of the lease.

The company wouldn't go after you if you didn't pay the bills. However, if you have paid them in the past as part of your living arrangement, then any judge will award your girlfriend money in court for any unpaid share of your bills.

Why not sit down with her, just try to end it as adults. On one hand you are purporting to be mature enough to live together and on the other you are saying you are immature enough to stick her with the bills as some form of punishment. This is not a good story to tell your next girlfriend. Just because you are hurt, does not mean that you need to take it out in that way. Believe me, I have been hurt and humiliated before and there was nothing I could do at the time. Well, I'm married now to a wonderful man, a nice house, security and a nice financial future. My friend is not spiritual at all but she has a good phrase "God does not like ugly". Basically, don't be vindictive, it will come back to you ten-fold. There is also something to say about "no good deed goes unrewarded". It just may take a while to see the outcome.

She could techincally take you to small claims court and TRY to get money back from you for bills but 9 out 10 times it doesn't work unless you really take advantage, like live there for months instead of a month or less.

No, I don't think so. If they are in her name, she is the one responsible for them, but by the same token, if you are living there using the electricity and cable, it's only morally right that you should pay your share.

if its her name on the bill, then the company that's owed doesn't give a fig about you. but she may take you to judge judy.
