Easy.
1. Locate a sunny to partly shady location in you property

2. No need to build a bin because a pile works just as well

3. Start collecting materials like leaf litter, grass clippings, healthy garden vegetation (nothing diseased)

4. Add kitchen scraps like veggies, coffee grounds, egg shells, and even shredded paper.
(No meat or fat products)

5. You can add things like peat and stable manure (not dog, cat, or human) if you like.

6. Use a shovel or pitch fork to turn it all together

7. Water it down a bit, but don't saturate it. Just moisten it.

8. Turn it every week or so to keep it cooking

9. Cover with tarp if you want it to cook faster just make sure you continue to turn the compost

10. Just sit back and let it do it's thing

Good Luck

We use a compost bin which we bought at a hardware store & just throw all our vegetable peelings, egg shells, garden cutting etc. into it. If you can't afford a compost bin you can build a box out of timber, it doesn’t have a base & you can get away with it not having a lid but I think it works better with one as it keeps the fly's out. If you can't afford to buy timber, just pick a spot/corner in the garden that gets a bit of sun & throw you waste into the one spot. If it's a pit you want, dig a hole about 3' round or square & use that for all your waste. The worms won't care what solution you come up with.

It really depends on how much space you have and your skills but there are many different designs all of which work well.

You don't have to spend a lot of money on materials. I use old wooden pallets nailed to corner posts that I have rammed into the ground.

This link will show you different styles of bin and explain how to make them.

Good Luck.
