I've been on the patch for 2 years and it is awesome. You just started using it? Give it a couple months. Spotting is normal for ANY hormonal birth control (pills, shots, patch, ring).
I don't experience spotting but I never have, either. My periods are light, regular, and generally last about 4 days - usually last 8 without BC.
Don't believe what the media has tried to construe to the world about them being unsafe. They are as safe or safer than the pill. Why do some portray it as being unsafe? Here's why: If you graph out the level throughout the day, the patch keeps a regular and steady level of hormone in your system. Taking the pill causes peaks and valleys (spikes and dips) which can be construed to mislead you to think there is less in your system.
There is ALWAYS a health risk when taking hormones and the risk factors are all the same across the board. Your doctor would not let you take something if he/she thought it might be harmful to you. Make sure they know all of your family history and all about your lifestyle (smoking, how many sexual partners, drinking, age, drugs and medications, etc) so they can find a good match for you, your habits, and your lifestyle.

It is perfectly normal. If you bleed heavily (a pad per hour, soaked) or it just doesn't ever stop, see your doctor. However, you are most likely experiencing what little a period you have on the patch. It should settle out fairly quickly. Take Midol for the cramps and you'll be fine.

Could it possibly be your period?
When I was on the ortho evra patch it made my periods worse and I got terrible headaches.
EDIT:
How long have you been on the patch?
And, there could a chance that you could be pregnant...especially if you haven't been on it that long and you and your partner didn't use a condom. When the egg implants, you can experience implantation bleeding/cramping.

Talk to your doctor but I think the patch has side effects like spotting and cramps

no it is a side effect of the patch. it could mean it is not effective, so you might want to talk to your doctor about switching to a birth control pill that is higher in estrogen. good luck!

stop asking people online? do you think they went to med school like your doctor did? no, most of them are just writing down whatever for points. it's as simple as this, call your doctor tomorrow and explain what is happening. YOUR DOCTOR will know if it is a concern because they know the patch and know your history. they will simply say dont worry or come in. a phone call only takes 5 mintues. please dont listen to people on here. this is your health!
