Bush when tapping our conversations, and monitoring our lives!
And, they thought Nixon was bad! With the "nice example" we have at the White House right now, Nixon should be canonized! Who's with me? Let's call the Pope and submit Nixon's name!

Big Brother. In reference to Kurt Vonegut Jr.'s "1984" -- it means anyone bought out by a totalitarian system. Psychologists, physicians, teachers, office workers -- anyone willing to spy or rat on fellow citizens of that society who did not conform to their laws. Big Brother was actually the term referred to the big eye in the sky that recorded everyone's movements, whereabouts, conversations and even most intimate encounters. There were no secrets or privacy in that society.

Big Brother typically refers to the government, but on a smaller scale big brother refers to someone or some group who is keeping watch of you. Not necessarily in a good way.

"Big Brother" is a fictional character in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the enigmatic dictator of Oceania, a totalitarian state taken to its utmost logical consequence. In the society that Orwell describes, everyone is under complete surveillance by the authorities, mainly by telescreens. The people are constantly reminded of this by the phrase "Big Brother is watching you", which is the core "truth" of the propaganda system in this state. The physical description of "Big Brother" is reminiscent of Joseph Stalin or Lord Kitchener.
