I've been waiting forever, and it hasn't happened yet.

I'm afraid to pick a new team.. because if I do.. then I'll latch on to them.. then the Whalers will come back, and I'm not one to have "TWO FAVS". That's stupid.

I was a die hard Whalers fan myself. It was especially hard seeing them go seeing as they were really connecticuts only professional sports team, well in the big four professional sports that is.

I've been reading answers and people have it wrong of why the whalers did move. People have this assumption that the whalers did not attract many people. This is false. The Whalers had a hugely devoted fan base, this may be a reason why 10 years later there is still a booster club.

Hartford is not a small market unlike contrary belief. Hartford as a city itself doesnt have a huge population, however its metrpolitan area is something like the 40th largest in the country. Over a million people liv ein the Hartford metropolitan area.

The true reason the whalers left was because John Rowland was more interested in obtaining an NFL team, and didnt really give the whalers anything. He should have built them a new arena. If he did, the whalers would still be here.

The Whalers had excellent attendance for the record the team held while they were in Hartford. They only made it to round 2 of the playoffs like twice. Its a huge misconception that they didnt attract crowds.

I believe the Whalers will be back eventually. I also believe the Winnipeg Jets will be back eventually. I am not sure of a team in Quebec. Lets just all keep hoping it happens soon enough.

Peter Karmanos has no ties to the New England area (living in Detroit and a beach complex in North Carolina) and has no plans to sell the Hurricanes anytime soon, and Carolina's attendance is pretty good

Justin S
- where was this excellent attendance in Hartford?

They had 12 sellouts in 16 years, averaging just under 12,000 fans

I saw 109 games at the Hartford Civic Centre, and only 2x was there a crowd larger than 14,000 people.

This is a city that for a playoff game against Montreal, in a series they were leading, drew 9,000 fans on a beautiful day.

The Whalers aren't coming back to the Hartford area, nor do I see Boston/NYC helping anybody out who wants to move there.

to be honest... I think it'll be a long long time before Hartford enters the picture for a new team...

I don't think any individual or group has really stepped forward and show serious interest - not talking about fans but a real individual or group with some serious dollars...

The Whalers were one of my favourite teams growing up... I'd used to separate my Whalers cards just so I can see Pucky. It was really hard to see such a nice logo turn into some colors mixed into a blender - the Hurricanes logo is awful...

Doubtful. Las Vegas will get a team before Hartford sees one again. Not that having a team in Vegas makes sense either, as much as I would love to see a live NHL hockey game again.

Hartford will never have another NHL team. Chalk it up to the same small market syndrome that took Quebec and Winnipeg. No money coming in means the team will eventually be leaving.

if a team is going to move it will most likely come to Canada, there is business men in Hartford that wants to bring a team in, but Nashville will be going to Canada in the near future.
