Depends, both are low end (but I'm not sure what the hell DOS would be doing on the laptop, it's obsolete and has been for years).

If you need a computer to carry around with you then you don't really have much choice in the matter (though you really should get a 3 year warranty on a laptop, unless you're happy to throw it out after 1 year) but if you never intend to move the computer then the desktop would be much better (it is faster, with more RAM and a bigger hard drive).

Laptops are really only worth it if you need the portability they offer.

It depends upon your use of computer, If you need to do very big presentations to your clients in situations where good computers are not available then you definitely need a Laptop.
But still there is a room as now most of the people have good computers at their work and home, in such case presentations can be carried on DVDs or Pen Drives to client sites.
Desktop PCs are always a better choice, even for programmers as they are upgradable, you can have bigger Monitors, Better Sound system and can get good Gaming devices (if you are a gaming freak!) like Graphic Accelerators. Keyboard and mouse are very handy in comparison to the keypad and track-pad.
I would suggest the said Desktop, as it seems a better choice, even if you are on move.

Laptops are handy when you are on the go and need to get work done more efficiently. On the other hand, desktops are heavy duty and you could use it to do work that requires a lot of time.

You see laptops are supposed to work in specific conditions such as cool areas, limited time of use, and difficult to upgrade. For a desktop, there is always room for an upgrade (just open the case and replance stuff), it could run for hours and hours, and if any of the peripherals malfunction you could just by a new one and replace it. Unlike laptops, if the keyboard or the mouse is broken you have to wait for quite some time to have it repaired and it costs a lot.

I'd go for the desktop. It has a bit more RAM. Many manufacturers have moved to offering 2G as the standard RAM these days. Added to that, there is a Linux OS which I'd use exclusively.

If I don't mind paying up a bit more for the mobility, lesser RAM and the labour of installing Linux and getting iit work to my tastes, I'll definitely go for the laptop.

But laptops feel slower than desktops. Or may be its just me.
