Think of it this way. Each of the four lines intersects the other three once each. And two lines cross at each intersection. So the total number of intersections is:

4*3/2 = 6

Six. Think of the four lines as being drawn sequentially. First you draw one line. The second line is drawn to intersect the first, so that's one point. Then a third line is drawn to intersect the first two at different points, so that's two more points of intersection, for a total of three points. Finally a fourth line is drawn to intersect each of the first three lines at different points, for three more points of intersection, for a total of six points.
