Under the control panel, u need to set keyboard language to right country, @ being above 2 is US default I believe, whereas to right of Keyb is UK norm, here in Norway it's AltGr + 2

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Regional and Language options
Click LANGUAGES TAB
Click Details (top right)

Pick correct keyb options and set as default then delete the incorrect setting

This problem arises because americans have differently laid out keyboards than britons.

Go into Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Details button. If the correct country and / or keyboard don't show in the list, click the Add button and select it from the dropdown-list, then press OK. Select the correct keyboard layout, then OK out of everything.

Go to Control Panel/Regional & Language options and check that it's set to English (if you have to change it you might need to restart PC)
