No experience is necessary, just a caring and gentle nature. How much experience does it require to hold and rock an AIDS infected baby who's been abandoned by it's mother or to read a book to someone who's had a stroke? I was a Candy Striper (sounds funny but we had cute pink and white uniforms) when I was 15 at a hospital in New Orleans and I learned a lot about people and myself doing it.

Most volunteer positions just need a willing person.
Most hospitals require a few hours of training [that they provide] before you can work within the facility.
Training covers such things as what the various codes mean and what you as a volunteer will be expected to do when you hear one announced; and Patient information confidentiality laws
Usually volunteers are assigned duties commensurate with their abilities - that could mean simple jobs like delivering flowers, refilling water pitchers, etc.
I currently am assigned to Out Patient Surgery where I act as an extra pair of hands for the Nursing staff.
Please do volunteer there is a great need.

Any hospital would be happy to put to work as a volunteer. The good attitude you are displaying here is all you need. Otherwise, you don't need any special skills or experience to do volunteer hospital work. Go for it!

I think the only requirement is that you are willing to volunteer. Candy-stripers in hospitals have been around for years. It is a very good way to give back to the community.

If you know a second language, are good with kids, or have some other talent, No, generally volunteers are accepted without experience. You may need to be trained in proper procedures though. Many of the jobs are relatively simple: delivering gifts, library cart, taking patients to and from rooms, working in gift shop, etc. Good for you for wanting to help. If you have a second language, are good with kids, or have some other talent, that's a plus.

I know about this kind of thing you are talking about. I had cancer when I was teenager and there were people were voulunteering their time every so often so they can get credit for college, but maybe not for college, but they just went to hospitals to try to chear those who have cancer and make those with the terminal illnesses live longer and have a happy life of what they have left.
