Close.

The President never controlled or tweaked the economy.

However the Federal reserve board does tweak it all the time.
And the big business that controls what the sheep (oops I mean people) are allow to buy by producing and promoting goods they want us to buy only.

We effect the economy by buying and selling what is out there for us. However we do not have as much control as many think due to options.

Governments can effect the economy through taxation, spending, trade restrictions, regulations and monetary policy of the central bank. The President can do none of these things without the consent of congress and has no direct control of the Fed. Therefore he is very constrained in is actions but he is the most important single person in determining governmental policies.

True, the nation as a collective group of individuals, controls our destiny and it's economy.

Our president tweaks it.

Current administration's policy of stimulating the economy through deficit spending will be a force to reckon with for future presidents, as the ballooning deficits mount and create debt nobody can or will be willing to pay down.

Suggestion: The winner of the next election should bear down on corporations who find loopholes and use offshore tax shelter shemes that border on illegality...to evade paying income taxes....tap into that vast pool of potential revenue...don't expect individuals to carry this burden!

The people of a nation control EVERYTHING. The President should only be a spokesperson for the general civilian consensus.
