I am referring to the Divisional and Corps level Commanders and how about Hitler himself?

Hitler never got close enough to the front line for an accidental shot killing him. He fought during WW I but kept out of dangers way during his time as dictator.

For the commanders the is no general rule. Some were close enough to the front line to get killed, some wer so far behind they never got in danger.
A divisional staff (including it commander) usually was some miles behind the front line. In times of low hostility that staff was so close to the front that it could keep in touch with all parts of the division/korps. But during rapid moves (attack as well as retreat) staffs sometimes lost contact to the unit they comanded.

A divisional commander was about 1.5 miles from the front line. A korps commander about 5-10, commanders of an army even more.

Depends on the individual.
People like Guderian were on the front line, sometimes in the front tank
Others never got closer that 100 kilometres
