Not only the state, but every credit card, car lot, and anyone who pays the $5 for a list of names of married people will send you mail in your married name, so you might as well tell the truth with your family.

What kind of mail, exactly?
Are you married (getting married) living with your family as a single woman?
I don't know specifically about IL but my husband and I were married for 3 years before I actually legally changed my name to his. I never got one piece of mail with his last name on it even once! In fact, now that I DO use his last name and have legally changed it, I still get lots of mail with my former last name. (sorry, I have to amend my statement that I never got any mail with his last name. The only place that did address us as Mr. & Mrs. "Samelastname" was our church)
If you fill out any information and put down HIS last name as yours, then you WILL get mail w/ that last name on it, but even when my son was born and I had to give my MAIDEN name (even though I had already taken my husband's), I got mail reguarding my son with my maiden name on it.

If you are talking about mail from the courthouse regarding your marriage license, then it MIGHT say Mr. & Mrs. so-and-so. Other than that, you have to notify your bank, your credit card companies, state/federal institutions, work, etc. that you've changed your name.
It's true that if someone is LOOKING to see if you are married they can find out, but, like I said, you still have to go and legally change your name (your SS, driver's license, etc.).

So you're trying to get married but keep it quiet?

ARE YOU NUTS????

The family's going to find out eventually and then they're REALLY going to be mad, first because you're marrying under circumstances where they apparently won't approve and then because you're doing it behind their backs.

If you're doing it because you're underage, they can have it annulled when they find out.

You need to SERIOUSLY rethink this.
