They don't really research or make discoveries about science fiction. They just write literary criticism.

Well, if you are talking about science-fiction-inspired stuff, you can say that going to the Moon was accomplished, in part, because it was the culmination of a dream, which up to that point, been only realized in science-fiction books.
In fact, you might be surprised that many of the astronauts and cosmonauts are science-fiction readers, as well.
Among the practical discoveries would be teleportation--which only now means moving atoms from one place to another. It's difficult to believe that the inspiration for such a breakthrough couldn't have come from Star Trek.
Science fiction INSPIRES, and nothing else. You can either read it (or watch it) idly by, or you can allow it to give you a kick in the pants, making you ask yourself "Yeah, what CAN we do?", and go on from there.

Sci-fi doesn't have "latest researches and discoveries" - it's all made up.
You must be talking about science.
We don't have that much space here - look up "discovery.com" for science news.
