Where is the best place to put my wireless router in my house?
I heard in a video to put it as high as possible because the waves fall down, giving better signal. Is this true?

You want it to be as close to where you usually work as possible. Having it high works good if you have line of sight (outdoors) but inside you may lose signal having to cut through the house electrical system.

The best location for the router is the one which minimizes the distances to the typical locations where the wireless device will be used. If you have several wireless devices then the most central location for all devices is best. Line of sight is great but is typically impractical in a house setting (more feasible in an open office layout). Dense walls, floors, and metallic objects (kitchen appliances) affect the wireless signal. If you put the wireless router at the edge of the house you have effectively lost half of the signal as it radiates in all directions (half of which are towards the outside of the house!). It's helpful to walk a wireless laptop around the house while viewing the signal strength displayed for the connection. This will give you a rough idea of the problem areas which sometimes may not be so obvious.

TRy to keep away from corners (walls) and other appliances like microwave or cordless phone on the same Band. Most antennas are omni directional, but you get better results if it is upside downside on the ceiling.
