Umm. last time that I checked Las Vegas was just a major US City but I would be wrong. Now, Washington D.C is a district if you are getting that confused with Las Vegas.

It is a large city in the middle of the Nevada desert in the state of Navada. It grew up there because the laws of the state allowed gambling, whereas, at the time, gambling was severely restricted elsewhere.
