I'll agree with Julia S. with "grid puzzles". As a puzzle maker, I'm curious what else you're grouping with crosswords and sudokus, and what kind of puzzle you're not including.

Sudoku is a logic puzzle. Crossword is more of a trivia puzzle, with a strong language bias. Is "puzzles that use grids" the group concept you're looking for? In layman terms, what is the common feature, and then I can provide the technical name ... Is the concept a multi-part puzzle (as compared to, say, a riddle)?

They are logic puzzles. The more you solve the easier they get.
