If you have been using cheap unadditized fuel, you may have accumulated rust and gum deposits in the fuel tank. Some fuel additives and even fuel with a blend of alcohol could clean out the fuel tank then dump all the dirt into the fuel filter.

BUT if you have been using additized fuel and keeping your tank at least always half filled, it is clean and do not have deposits to dump on the filter.
