Rotary engines operate much differently than a regular piston engine. By that, there are no high-compression pistons, cams, etc.

The 13B has very few internal moving parts, when compared to a piston engine. There are no valves, cams, etc to wear out or break. The only moving parts inside a rotary are the eccentric shaft, rotors and intake/exhaust ports. Fewer moving parts means a longer-lasting engine.

If you're gung-ho about modding your FC3S, check out what RE-Amemiya has to offer. Their entire focus is about tuning Rotary engines. It isn't gonna be cheap though.

If you can't afford it, I'd suggest learning to drive better. The FC3S is a vicious car in the hands on a capable driver.

Just by driving my own non-turbo FC3S (an 87 GXL), you need to rev it higher than a piston engine for it to have more power. I'd reccomend giving yourself some time to learn to heel-and-toe it. It's not too hard and saves wear on your clutch when downshifting.

There is not much besides porting the engine that is internal.
A light weight fly wheel will help some.
But as said right above, most drivers only know how to get 50% of what a car can do out of it.
So if you can learn how to get to the 75% to 85% you will find the car is much better then you knew.
Please consider a safe place to strut your stuff like at Solo II compititions. The entry fees are modest, the rules well structured, and there are no speeding tickets (black flags yes).

It's kind of a hard question. The Rx-7s were rotary motors and they don't have the same kind of upgrades a regular combustion motor has. the only thing that isn't overly pricey for the rotary's is the basic intake and exhaust.
