You just brought back a very funny memory. Back when I was still married to my ex-husband, I woke in the middle of the night to a skittering sound in the room. At first I thought it was a lizard or maybe even a mouse (we lived on a lake and it was impossible not to have critters get in from time to time, and we had a chimney in the master suite as well). As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I saw something running along the top of the drapery rods across the tops of the big windows, and realized it was a flying squirrel.
I woke my ex (husband at the time), who happened to be down in his back (it was ALWAYS something with him!). Anyway, he got up in his tacky little whitey-tighteys and was trying to catch it in a blanket. He would jump for it, and then grab his back and go "ouch". This went on and on for about 15 minutes---jump, grab, ouch, jump, grap, ouch, and once I got past the shock of what I was seeing it got hysterical. I wanted to get the video camera and send it in to "Funniest Home Videos" but since that was at his expense he wouldn't allow it. I would give just about anything if I'd had the nerve to do it anyway and had that tape now to put on YouTube or something! Anyway, he finally caught it and slung it outside.

Yes, I think they can have rabies, so you should try to trap them or catch them with something like a sheet or blanket or at least wear gloves and long sleeves and try not to touch them or let them bite you.

if i woke up and a squirrel was on my bed, I would scream bloody murder. After that, I would run out of the house and get my friend and neighbor to help me.

Anyway, they could have rabies, but you are safe since this one didn't bite you. Since it didn't get agressive toward you, I will bet it doesn't have rabies.

I don't think your squirrell had rabbies. I would probably be a little concerned over how he got in though. Next time it could be a raccoon and then you got problems. Squirrels are generally mild mannered. I would have just made a trail of food to the door and booted him out (gently) with the broom.

If that happened to me, I would probably flip out screaming!!!! If the squirrel looked healthy and it wasn't foaming at the mouth and acting real mean(signs of rabies)or didn't have any hair missing(mainge) then I think its fine.

they probably do have rabies, but youll only catch it if they slept on the left hand side of you, if they were on your right hand side youll be fine.

Unless they have bitten you i dont think youve got to much to worry about. But i would be making sure they dont get in again!!! Wild animals should not be in houses!!!

I bet the squirrel was even more scared than you. We don't have squirrels in Australia but they sound so cute so I guess I would be very very scared if I woke up and found one on my bed, but not as scared as I would be as if it were a bear ( we don't have bears here either)
Koalas are not bears, they can fight to defend themselves but a very very quiet sleepy critters. Wouldn't you be quiet and sleepy if all you ever got to eat was gum leaves ugh! Poor Koalas

Rabid squirrels would probably not be able to get into your chimney as the disease affects their coordination. However, you asked what I would do if I found one on my bed. I would say, "Not tonight, dear", and go back to sleep.

they can have rabies just like any other "wild" animal. You might have a squirell nest in your house, better get somone out to check things. I've heard they can be harder to get rid of than rats or mice. Good luck!

well, i'd think i was in a different country! because my country has no known squirrels. Seriously though, i'd just try and catch it under an upside down wastepaper basket, then set it free outside before my cat gets at it.

if the squirrel had rabies it wouldn't run from you, otherwise it should have taken off when it saw you. If it doesn't run, lock it in your room and call animal control. Don't try to catch it yourself.
