tan(π/3) = √3 / 1 = √3

You can get this directly from a 30°, 60°, and 90° triangle. The ratio of the length of the longer leg of the triangle to the length of the shorter leg is the tangent.

tan (pi/3) = tan (60°) = (sqrt 3 )
