We have done the living wax museum, where each person stand still as someone walks by them, makes a comment and then the character comes to life and speak about who the are. They must dress the part also. After the person speaks, they strike the same pose as if they are wax.

You can use different centuries or use 1800's or 1900's. 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's. Or, make up your own time line depending on the people you have. Go to Google and type in black history and you will come up with plays, skits, poems and people that invented things.

You can do a "Who Am I' where each character acts out who they are and the audience has to guess who they are. Correct answers receives a prize. You can to to the library and ask for help and use pictures of them also. Ask the church if anyone has some of these items. You'll be surprised just what they have.

One good thing you can do is have all the church members bring in old things that they have and do a real museum. (just for safety reasons, tell them to take it home each week, so now one will have to be responsible for valuable or non-replaceable items). Example: Iron with no cord that you use on the pot belly stove, pictures, report cards from our parents, old baby clothes, old rocking chair, old shoes, clippers for your hair, the kind you used manually. Old wash board, a church song book called the Gospel Pearl.

We even had a shoe box lunch where every one fixed a lunch and put it in some kind of box or container, like in the old days when there was no lunch program. Everyone had to be very creative with the lunch, inside and out !!!. One lunch was a can of Vienna sausage and crackers, pickle, pop, and a cookie. Then others may put in the individual can chicken and crackers or TV dinner, or fried chicken and mac and cheese. Do one example to show the church. Decorate it whatever way you want. fancy or comic newspaper. Tell them, everyone that brings a lunch, receives a lunch. Someone can brings a few extras for guest. Now when you receive the lunch to put on the table, put a number on it, then when you get ready to pass them out, each person pulls a number out of the hat and they receive that particular lunch. If you are not careful, that part can get out of control. Or, you can come up with your own ideas on how you want to pass it out.

You can have old, black movies night. Invite the oldest pastor in your town to be a special guest that day.

Have someone recite the "I have a dream speech. Have the pastor dress up as an old preacher that day, be dressed up and be introduced as the character. He can even find sermons from famous preachers.

We have a very nice program that I can pass on to you, pictures and all. It is already to be emailed to whoever would like it. I will leave my email in my profile or whatever way they allow you to get the information. Much Success.
