I have purchased a 12-hole sweet potato ocarina and have no way of figuring out how to play it. I tried to understand the finger chart and I know where to put my fingers, but I don't know everything else; that means I don't know when I have to blow harder or softer, when I have to change my finger positioning, what a beat is and how to implement them with the ocarina. What kind of lessons or classes should I look for in order to play it? Would appreciate any positive answers, Thank You.

Get book on "how to read music". This should explain timing, note values and the significance of the "dots" on the staff.

Wait a minute! I re-read your post. How can an ocarina have 12 holes? You only have 10 fingers, and you need a couple of them to hold the instrument. Maybe I'm a dummy!

I figured it out, pjnbarb, 2 of those holes are for half-steps.
