Not in the U.S., no. I could see how in other English-speaking countries they could sound similar because of the accent. Most notably I think Australians would maybe say those similarly.

Yas, in fact it hes. My late cousin's wife is from the Phillipines and she pronounces the short e sound as a short a. My cousin thought it was pretty saxy. ;)

Not if you speak with Australian accent. We can tell the difference because they don;t sound at al the same over here.

I don't think they sound the same, and where I am from people don't say them the same...I guess it depends on where you are from though.

I don't think so but it depends on the accent with which they are pronounced. i can imagine perhaps some southerners pronouncing them similarily.
