They are call High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights... also called (the widely abused name) "Xenon" lights, named after the gas in these light capsules. They produce almost a bright white and sometimes with a slight tint of blue.

They produce 200% of the brightness of regular incandescent headlight bulbs yet only take 60% of the power. In the US, HID lights are still an option on some current models BMW cars, but you definitely can order the car with them on.

To add to this, BMWs have these rings on their headlamps commonly called "Angel Eyes".They started introducing them on the 5-series from 2001 on, and are now standard on ALL new BMW models.

Ya, i had seen in cple of new models, even on 325's. Anyone know whether I can order one of those "Angel eyes" for a 325I-2004 model, I mean the "Xenon" lights in Canada ? Any comments Snowie ? thanks
