Hello James,
I think the answer above me (Leonards), said it almost as I would have suggested, however check, on line, or other resources like: BBB (Better Business Bureau), to see if the contractor has had any strikes against the company name; if so when, and why. Good, or Bad reports is always good to know these kinds of things, when sinking hard working money into your life's investment. Thank you ;-)

That should of been done before your work was started. Get at least 3 bids from 3 contractors before you decide who to give the work to.

If you live in a big city, craigslist always helps. If your contractor goes purely by hourly rate, you might end up paying more. I usually negotiate a set price before starting a work, and it doesn't matter how long it takes.

ask another contractor. you should have had at least three bids done before you picked one. nothing on-line is going to help.each home is different and every area is priced different
