When Pres. Bush landed on the aircraft carrier with the big banner saying "mission accomplished" flying behind him, and wearing a flight suit, I knew it was a photo-op. But I honestly thought it was taking place in the Gulf or the Indian Ocean, where he was meeting and thanking sailors and marines who had been there - done that. I just found out (on national news) last week that this war victory celebration took place on a ship 30 MINUTES flying time off the coast of CALIFORNIA.
I was truly saddened at the depths he would go to, and the gullibility of the US population (myself included). Does anyone else find this to be the true measure of just how shallow (or chickenhearted) a man our elected president really is?

During WWII President Roosevelt attended the Potsdam conference IN Europe IN a much bigger combat zone
DURING the war. So, yeah I would expect him to travel to the theatre of combat after the war was "Over".

Also I spent 8 years in the Navy, I served in a DIRSUP unit and I sailed on the NIMITZ, EISENHOWER, FORRESTAL, SARATOGA, INDEPENDENCE, DEYO, CARON, ESTOCIN and GALLERY; I have TWO Expeditionary Forces medals and was nominatede for the Naval Air medal, the Joint Services Commendation medal and two Naval Acheivement medals, as well as Meritorious Unit Citation. I spent 5 months in El Salvador, nearly got killed twice and came home with 3 collapsed discs in my lower spine and permanent
pinched nerve in my right thigh. My brother was an RM and then IT and spent 27 years in the Navy, LANTFLT, and PACFLT - and neither of us ever saw any kind of giant banner hung on a carrier.
