Is this a huge problem, and is there anything I can do without just taking sleep aids every night?

My teenager had a hormone problem that interfered with her sleep she would go 40 hours without then only sleep a few hours then be up again. Within a day of getting her on hormone pills she started sleeping. Go to your Doctor and tell them the problems it might just be an imbalance.

Well, it could be that you have to much stress or something on your mind that won't let you sleep. It could be that you have a sleeping disorder which is quite common. There's a long list of disorders so you might want to google that to see or visit your doctor. but for now, if you want more sleep do the following:

Tips To Develop Better Sleep Habits:

Sleep in a dark, quiet room.

Avoid routine daytime naps.

Avoid alcohol use, which disrupts sleep.

Avoid caffeine, especially in the afternoon or evening.

Maintain a regular sleep schedule. Get up at the same time everyday.

Avoid regular use of sleeping pills. Sleep medications should be taken only under the supervision of a physician

Plan regular daily exercise, preferably in the evening. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise for at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
Good Luck,

okay try to keep a normal diet
breakfast
at 6-8 (9 is okay but a little late)
lunch at 12
dinner at 6-8 ish
imagine it like school
just a normal school activity

then
things that help you sleep without medication
taking a warm bubble bath for 20 minutes

eating cookies and milk (yes it actualy works! :O) turkey and peanuts work too

relax before going to bed, like reading a book

write down ALL your stress and problems into a journal so then it helps releive stress that may cause u to be alert

make sure your bed is comfy and big enough for you and that your room is comfy for you too and not stressing

hide all white lights and digital clock/alarm clock lights because clocks might make you watch the time a lot causing stress, and white light just makes your brain say 'its still bright! its not nighttime yet'

do NOT
nap in the middle of the day unless you are sick or old and need naps

try not to drink caffeine/alcohol

don't exercise at night because it may stimulate your body that will make it hard to fall asleep

don't smoke!

HI,well just because you/people talk in their sleep does NOT mean they have a psychological disorder. Why is it that almost everyone thinks that they MUST have some kind of a mental disorder these days? I mean..what's going on here? I too sometimes talk in my sleep, this doesn't mean I have mental problems.Seems as though every single teenager must have a psychological disorder,I simply don't understand what's going on nowadays.Anyways,go talk with you're doctor if you're this concerned.Good luck to you.

Turn the lights out. If you're pineal gland (in yer brain) is functioning properly the lack of light getting into your eyes will cause it to produce a normal amount of melatonin, a natural sleep aid produced by all living things from humans to algae.

If not, try taking melatonin pills. It's natural and non-habit forming.

if there are no other problems you are suffering from, you most likely do not have a psychological disorder. Lots of people do it. It's Harmless. Why do you want to get rid of it so badly though? I wouldnt worry about it to much. Sedating yourself before you go to sleep effects the quality of your sleep, so unless really necessary i wouldn't go there.

The is a sleep aid called "sleep MD" that is not addictive or habit forming.

Sound like you have serious insomnia. Regular exercise will help!!
