OK this is kinda weird, but I have been trying to get pregnat for about a year and a half, but my period stopped like a year ago. My doctor told me that it was caused by excessive weight gain.. (it was stemmed from depression) I finally got help with my depression and I have been losing weight. But I still am missing the all important key to getting pregnat, the period and ovulation... I am tired of my doctor basically calling me fat, so I am hoping maybe just maybe anyone else has had this "fat" problem, or a simular one at that.. And what did you do to solve it or did you? How long did it take and what steps did you take to get there??

My general practice doctor told me this same crap 5 years ago. I was so upset that I lost weight and like you still couldn't ovulate. Turned out that I had a thyroid problem all this time that turned off my hormone production. I saw an endocrinologist and the problem is currently being solved. Being healthy, though, is really important for pregnancy and women do need a small amount of "pouch" for a healthy pregnancy. Next step for me is getting massages and learning how to relax...stress is also a huge factor for proper hormone balancing. Who Knew!?! All of my best wishes to you.=)

I was sick for a year and the doctors kept telling me it was in my head. Well I gained a ton of weight from not being able to function like a human being. I am watching what I eat and moving as much as I can. I would tell you doctor to get a life. My period never stopped. Doctors blame that stuff when they can't seem to figure anything else out. so insead of doing there job they just say oh it is your weight or in my case all in my head. Sorry I have a lack of respect for the medical "profession" I am using that would to be nice.

I wish you the luck and get a new doctor. ONe that wants to help not make things worse.

First of all, congratulations on getting control of your depression and your weight, I know how hard dealing with both of those can be.

Has the doctor done any further investigation into your amenorrhea? While it can be caused by weight gain, it can also be caused by a number of other things, including weight loss, hormone imbalances, and thyroid deficiencies.

If the doctor hasn't done any further investigation after a year without a period, you might want to consider getting a second opinion.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Well number one, obesity does not get in the way with actually getting pregnant. The extra weight may be a strain on a womans body who is to begin with over weight. However, many larger women get pregnant and have healthy pregnancies. The problem you are coming across is a doctor who has bad bed side manners and the lack of empathy. Your not missing your periods either because you are "fat". Any doctor who tells you that is a quack. Get a second opinion dear. Some doctors want their patients in tip top shape to hopefully avoid complications with pregnancy. Thats all fine and dandy but many skinny woman who become pregnant have complications as well. Find a good gynecologist who is concerned with your attempt of getting pregnant. The right one will be able to figure out why you are delayed in the menstrual cycle and offer ways to conceive after they evaluated your situation. GET A SECOND OPINION. There are good doctors out there. Find one that cares about not only you but your potential baby as well.

obesity interferes with a lot of bodily functions. so that is the first place to start with virtually any health problem. i mean what do you expect your doctor to do? he has to try the obvious and the non-invasive first. i do know another woman who can't get pregnant because of her weight. i'm really sorry.
