I have a used PC with Google Earth on it. I believe it is some sort of Map software?? When I open it, it gives a message that says " we are unable to connect to the Google Earth servers to activate your account", after I close this dialogue box, the software opens up and I see what looks like a galaxy spinning, also there is box that is used for a zip code, but it wont allow me to type anything in it. Is this software active? What exactley is Google Earth. Is it free? How do I use it? Should I delete it?

It sounds like the person who had Google Earth before you had an upgraded version, so you won't be able to use it.
There is a free version you can download online. It's actually pretty cool. You can see aerial images of any place in the world.

If you are using the free verison of Google earth then you can buy a license for Google earth it will then upgrade automatically to the plus version of Google earth if the software is not active activate it by purchasing a activation key. If you are on DSL or a cable connection then it should not give you that message

You should be connected to the internet when you use it. That's the only real way to get anything out of it.

It's a very powerful map program that allows you to look at whatever you want through satellite and map imagery, and integrates a very smooth, powerful interface to do so. It's a lot of fun.

(It's not just for getting directions)

Google Earth lets you view Earth from all angles thanks to a combination of satellite photos and aerial images.
