i have 20/15 vision in my left eye and legally blind in my right eye because of a tear in the back of my eye.

The doctor said the vision problems in my right eye were because of the tear and cant be corrected, he said my eye well probably stay the same and that getting glasses or contacts may make it worst

I'm only guessing here but I think that they test both eyes at the DMV and loss of vision in one eye would impair your binocular depth perception. Studies have also shown impairment in contrast sensitivity and visual acuity under low illumination and glare. Too, people with right-eye blindness are much more likely than people with left-eye blindness to be sited for a traffic violation--according to another study. Yet, in the UK, you are legally allowed to drive a car with only one good eye but I don't know about elsewhere. As you already know, you will need to move your head more to compensate for the loss of vision on one side.

This whole thing is being spun as a rally for ALL immigrants, irrespective of status (since thier advocates really do not care whether they're legal or not). What I would love to see is a new entity, the "League of Documented Aliens" arise to champion the cause of legal immigration. These are the ones who should be fast-tracked for admittance and citizenship.

I had heard that "legally blind" only referred to someone whose vision in their better eye was, after correction, worse than 20/200. By that definition I don't think there can be a phrase "legally blind in one eye."

Eyes never stay the same and a problem in one eye can eventually cause problems in the other eye.

Is that "tear" a detached retina? If so there are procedures to reattach it and regain some functionality. Try getting a second opinion.

Not sure but in IL my brother is completely blind in one eye (retina detachment that could not be fixed) and limited vision in his other eye. He was able to renew his license and has a very good driving record. All you can do is try!

Not all retinas can be reattached that is wishful thinking.
