I agree with Theatre Doc. I would at the very least check them out thoroughly. What's the name of the company? How did your mom find out about this supposed audition? I can almost guarantee you they will ask for a large sum of money and pressure you to pay it fast. They will make big promises that they can't deliver (You have so much talent, you just need the right connections and we can provide that... We have industry professionals teaching our classes, you need OUR guy to do your headshots, I promise he's FABULOUS) Those are all things they'll say that are lies. If you want to be in this business, don't buy into the pay us and we'll get you in fast line.
What you should do instead is find legit classes and sign up for that instead. Look for something that has technique, scene study, improv, on camera, audition workshops (some may be all in one, most will be separate classes). Look to local theatres, actors studios, etc. and check them out before signing up. Make a list of questions, get them all answered, ask if you can attend a class for free to see if you like it before committing to signing up, etc.
Once you've had a good amount of training, audition at local theatres and maybe for student & indie films. Depending on how much is going on in your area, you may be able to find info on backstage.com and actorsaccess.com. Neither are totally free, but they are industry standards and totally legit. Have your mom check them out first. This is where you start. Once you build a good resume and have been in constant training, come back and ask about getting an agent or maybe you will be a good networker and find out on your own :-)
good luck,
Marianne

Hey Kristy.
Yeah you should totally go to an audition if you’ve never been to one. I’ve been to many auditions and I can tell you that they can be tough sometimes, but they make you a stronger person. You should remember that there’s always a possibility that you may not get in, but you can’t let that stop you from trying your BEST! Besides, you could be an instant hit and be the next superstar!
What should you wear?
Try and contact someone at the audition and ask as many questions as possible. Is this a general audition for agents? Or is this for a specific role? If it’s a general audition, just look your best. Whatever you want is fine. If its for a specific role, then you might want to think of what the director and producer are looking for and dress for the part. Also ask if you need to bring head shots or pictures of yourself. If you’re going to print out your pictures on your home printer, ask them what size they should be. (also look up ‘head shots’ on the net for more info.) Ask them if you need to get an ‘info sheet’ of yourself. This is much like a resume but it starts of with a description of you (ie, height, hair & eye color, any special talents, stuff like that). Lastly, ask the people if you need to prepare anything like a song or poem or a little monologue.
Its lotsa fun. Best of luck!!!

Dress very nicely...casual, but no jeans. Pick an outfit that complements you, but don't let it be distracting. You want them to see you not what you are wearing. Look natural. No heavy makeup. You can wear dress shoes, but make sure they aren't clunky and make a lot of noise. Don't be nervous. Just be yourself. The worst thing they can do is say no and it isn't going to be the end of the world if they do say no okay?
Good Luck.

Get some vital information about that audition from your local community and you don't need to worry about audition. Just relax and dress like normal. Is it a official audition?

IT sounds like the classic Powers or Barbizon scam. If it is for either of these companies or for the company which starts with C, I can't pull the name out of my head at the moment, just don't go, they are going to tell you that you need their expensive classes and then they will get you work, (they never do)

Be yourself, you do that better than anyone else can and if they are looking for someone like you they will take you over those who are trying to be something they are not.
Enjoy yourself.
